A Boston Hairdresser/Sleuth Stan Kraychik Mystery
Hilarious romp through murder, bow ties and Yellowstone Park
LOS ANGELES—June 15, 2019—ReQueered Tales is proud to announce it has formed a new publishing venture to re-publish older gay and lesbian fiction — with an immediate focus on mystery, horror and suspense genres. Our third release, available worldwide on Amazon as a Kindle e-book, is A BODY TO DYE FOR by Grant Michaels. When it was first published in 1990, George Baxt (The Dorothy Parker Murder Case) purred: “A delightful debut with a gay hairdresser-investigator who gets his fingers into a lot more things than hair. It’s a promising start to what looks to be a successful series.” Baxt was prophetic—the six book series racked up several award nominations and a loyal base of fans.
Stan “Vannos” Kraychik isn’t your everyday Boston hairdresser. Co-owner of Snips Salon with best bud (and occasional nemesis) Nicole, thought this day was an ordinary one. A delivery van backed into the salon’s rear driveway and accidentally spilled gallons of conditioner, leaving Stan (and hunky Roger) embracing in a gooey mess trying to staunch the flow, with little success as they slid and slipped with Nicole watching on with rolling eyes. Later Roger is found murdered in his apartment, and Stan’s client, Calvin Redding, who was also on the scene, can’t explain why Roger’s body dressed in little more than bowties. Enter Lieutenant Branco, dark, muscular, Italian, (straight) of Boston PD Homicide who immediately suspects everyone, especially Stan. In an attempt to clear his name, Stan travels to California, takes up mountain climbing, eavesdropping, spying, schmoozing, and a little bit of schtupping, all in an attempt to find the truth.
Reviewers loved it too. The San Francisco Bay Times said: “Surprisingly light-hearted, A Body to Dye For is full to overflowing with threatening phone calls, possible suspects and most of all … titillation. Michaels cleverly escorts his readers on a merry spin through straight and gay Boston, an overnight stay in San Francisco, and several days journey through Yosemite National Park. So kick back and escape from your all-too-real world with some kooky characters, feats of bravery and a happy ending.”
This first book in the Stan Kraychik Mystery series, available for the first time as an e-book. It’s available as a Kindle e-book for direct purchase or as part of Kindle Unlimited. This edition includes an exclusive 2019 foreword by the author’s brother, Carl Mesrobian, as well as an introduction by best-selling author Neil Plakcy.
A Body to Dye For was nominated for the 3rd Annual Lambda Literary Awards in 1991 for Best Gay Mystery.
